Storytime – As part of National eSmart Week

Join us for a live reading of the fabulous book The Internet is Like a Puddle written by Shona Innes. Kinder – ES1 Year 1 – S1 Year 2 – S1 Year 3 – S2 Storytime – As part of National eSmart Week The Internet is Like a Puddle attends to the wonderful aspects of electronic communication as well as gently discusses some of the possible pitfalls of sharing, chatting and using data. The book describes ways to stay safe and enjoy learning and chatting time on the Internet and to keep life balanced.

As part of National eSmart Week, which features the theme “Be your best self online”, this year’s event invites children and young people to explore what it means to be a positive digital citizen.

The free eSmart eBook will be sent to all registered participants via email on 1 May, to ensure you have time to plan your week and get your students excited for National eSmart Week 2023.
Across the week students will be encouraged to explore topics such as:
• What you can do and say to be positive online
• How algorithms, echo chambers and customised messaging impact our view of the world
• How to use technology purposefully

For this one, Lauren Jones – Creative Producer from Incite Arts – talks about the Ensemble, the Centre, and their wonderful collaboration.

Lauren Jones (she/her) is a UK born dance artist and Dance Movement Psychotherapist, currently living and working on Arrernte country in Alice Springs / Mpartnwe. Creative Producer for Strong Feelings, an Incite Arts disability-led exhibition by the stArts with D Performance Ensemble. Lauren’s role shifts between co-creator, mentor and collaborating artist with the stArts with D Performance Ensemble. Lauren also coordinates Incite’s arts and disability program and has worked as a producer and creative producer on various arts projects. Alongside working for Incite Arts, Lauren facilitates Dance Movement Psychotherapy sessions and lectures for Melbourne University on their Creative Arts Therapy program.

Experiment with Behavioural Psychology

Conditioning – it’s all around us! Join scientist Grace Blackburn and experiment with training your very own virtual rat! Year 7 – S4 Year 8 – S4 Year 9 – S5 Year 10 – S5 Year 11 – S6 Year 12 – S6 Experiment with Behavioural Psychology Have you ever trained your dog to sit? Do you associate the recess bell with food, fun and outdoors time? Then you’ve experienced conditioning!

Join Grace Blackburn, a PhD researcher from UWA working on animal cognition, and conduct your very own science experiment!

In rat zone, you’ll be training your virtual pet rat using either operant or classical conditioning. If you choose operant conditioning, you’ll be giving your rat a yummy piece of cake every time they perform an existing behaviour, either rolling over or cleaning its face. If you choose classical conditioning, you’ll be teaching your rate a new association, by rewarding it with a piece of cake whenever you ring chimes or turn a light on.

Science and video games unite in this incursion to teach students about the principles of conditioning in a fun and engaging way! Year 5 – S3 Year 6 – S3 Decisions In Decisions, students investigate a range of drugs, the laws around these drugs and the different ways they impact the body and brain. Schools have the opportunity to choose if they want Life Ed to include illegal drugs in this lesson, to align with their program.

The Inside Story

The Inside Story: Discovering a healthy active you. Experience Healthy Harold’s brand NEW syllabus-aligned module live. This fun and engaging session is facilitated by Life Ed’s specialist Educators. Year 3 – S2 Year 4 – S2 The Inside Story This fun interactive lesson is set in a kid’s TV news program. The story of this module unfolds as a team of kids scientists shrink Harold and place him inside a tiny capsule so he can travel inside the human body. Harold reports back on what he sees.

Learning includes:

The benefits of nutritious food for health and energy
Function of the body systems: digestive, respiratory, circulatory and others
Factors that influence physical health, such as nutrition, exercise and medicines

When Red runs off upset, Boots starts to feel sick in her stomach. With help from their friendship group, they sort things out.

Tarryn Gill is a Boorloo/Perth-based multidisciplinary artist who works across the mediums of sculpture, installation, photography, film, drawing, set and costume design, and performance. Tarryn’s Limber combines theatrical aesthetic materials and a process of making that reckons with the artist’s personal history in competitive dance and calisthenics. In this on-demand workshop, students use drama techniques to help explore and manage new experiences and situations. Charlie is the new kid in class; how will he settle in? Cleo is having a birthday party, but who will she invite? Andy is excited to go to the museum, but will he ever get to see the dinosaurs? And how will each of them shine on concert day?

With a focus on identifying and managing feelings, this workshop brings drama into the classroom and offers further opportunities for play and exploration with teachers, carers and peers. Make your own puppets and get exploring.
