STORY TIME Fashionista

Join Maxine Beneba Clarke as she reads her book Fashionista, leads us in craft activities and finishes in a flurry with a fashion face-off finale! Preschool/Early Childhood Kinder – ES1 Year 1 – S1 Year 2 – S1 Year 3 – S2 Year 4 – S2 Year 5 – S3 Year 6 – S3 STORY TIME Fashionista This program is Auslan interpreted and designed for ages 4-10 years accompanied by their grownup.

We’ll be crafting amazing accessories so come prepared with:

An A4 size piece of cardboard
Pencils or textas
Decorations like foil, cupcake wrappers, washi tape, stickers, magazines for collage, wrapping paper and glitter for a bit of bling!
Scissors (remember to ask for help with these if you need it!)
Elastic – about 30cm
Sticky tape and/or glue
Maxine’s template [pdf file] printed on paper/cardboard, or a favourite toy and piece of paper/cardboard big enough you can trace around

Maxine Beneba Clarke is an Australian writer and illustrator of Afro-Caribbean descent. She is the author of over ten books, including the short fiction collection Foreign Soil, the memoir The Hate Race, the poetry collections Carrying the World and How Decent Folk Behave and the children’s books Fashionista and When We Say Black Lives Matter.

Their understanding of the role of the artist and the audience builds on their experience. As an audience, students focus their attention on the artwork and respond to it. They consider why and how audiences respond to artworks.

Explore ideas and artworks from different cultures and times, including artwork by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, to use as inspiration for their own representations
Use materials, techniques and processes to explore visual conventions when making artworks

Mahsa Amini, a young Kurdish Iranian woman, died in police custody after being arrested by Iran’s morality police. Her death ignited protests across the country, with thousands of women and girls burning their veils and cutting their hair in defiance of the regime.  The unrest was met by severe crackdowns, violence and even execution.

Join us to hear from Iranian-Australian women as they tell us what the future for women and all Iran might look like. Together we will explore what role Australia has played – both in treatment of refugees and in advocating for human rights – as well as how the diaspora and their allies can help. This unmissable panel will be followed by a gorgeous musical set by ZÖJ. Your students are invited to join this panel of powerhouse women and non-binary people to hear about living with autism. They’ll be sharing about navigating social scenes and professional settings, and what masking and mimicry mean. Vipoo Srivilasa is a Thai-born, Naarm/Melbourne-based artist, ceramicist and arts activist. His work is a playful blend of European historical figurines, Asian decorative art practices and contemporary culture, often exploring cross-cultural and migration experiences. Collaboration is an important part of his art practice, and he regularly takes part in community-driven projects such as Wellness Deity, which he undertook during the COVID lockdowns. For more than 20 years, Vipoo has exhibited both throughout Australia and internationally, including the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and Saatchi Gallery, London. WORLDPRIDE A Pacific Perspective

This Virtual Highlight Tour will be delivered using Zoom. Year 11 – S6 Year 12 – S6 TAFE Students Teacher Parent WORLDPRIDE A Pacific Perspective Join special guest Fijian poet and art activist Peter Sipeli as we celebrate WorldPride from a Pacific perspective.

Peter is a co-founder of Centre for the Arts, Suva, and an arts manager and who founded The Poetry Shop, Fiji. He works as a gay activist using storytelling as advocacy, spoke at the inaugural TEDx Suva, and as a SLAM poet with a large following, he’s a champion of the revival of the literary movement in Fiji, working to provide spaces for new and emerging poets and artists to enable the framing of authentic local voices.

Peter lives in Suva with his partner Mark Lal and their two cats, Friday and Nala. To get creative you’ll need:

Something to draw with – coloured pencils, markers, pens etc.
A4 or A3 white paper
Scissors
Glue
Photographic materials to collage with, think magazines, nature books, thrifted cookbooks etc.

Minna Gilligan is a Melbourne-based artist who works primarily with painting, drawing and collage. Her works are eerie playgrounds of colour, usually inhabited by lone protagonists trapped in states of longing, sadness or exhalation. Minna exhibits nationally and internationally; and from 2011 – 2018 illustrated for ROOKIE, American actor Tavi Gevinson’s online magazine. Drama Life Skills – Accessible On-Demand Workshop

In this on-demand workshop, students use drama techniques to help explore and manage new experiences and situations. Preschool/Early Childhood Kinder – ES1 Year 1 – S1 Year 2 – S1 Year 3 – S2 Year 4 – S2 Year 5 – S3 Year 6 – S3 Year 7 – S4 Year 8 – S4 Year 9 – S5 Year 10 – S5 Year 11 – S6 Year 12 – S6 Drama Life Skills – Accessible On-Demand Workshop Meet facilitator Catherine who introduces us to the characters of Charlie, Cleo and Andy as they experience new situations in their everyday life. Charlie is the new kid in class; how will he settle in? Cleo is having a birthday party, but who will she invite? Andy is excited to go to the museum, but will he ever get to see the dinosaurs? And how will each of them shine on concert day?

With a focus on identifying and managing feelings, this workshop brings drama into the classroom and offers further opportunities for play and exploration with teachers, carers and peers. Make your own puppets and get exploring.

Designed especially for students who have additional needs, it is also suitable for students in early stages 1 and 2.
