They’ll look at aspects of biography, identity, and culture; discover different styles, mediums and movements; and learn through discussion, activity and drawing.

Portraits Tell Stories

History | Year 3 – Year 6 

This interactive session for Stage 2 and 3 students uses portraiture to provide opportunities for learners to develop and deepen their understanding of Australian history. Evidence, continuity and change, cause and effect, perspectives and empathy will be used as tools to investigate portraits in our collection within their historical context.

They’ll have the chance to experiment with different materials and techniques, respond to and learn from contemporary and historic portraits, and consider why people make art in the first place!

Making a Music Track – Interactive Workshop – 18th November ’24 2:00pm Session

Fusing technology & music, students will develop their music-making skills while collaborating with a live artist to express themselves musically. Year 3 – S2 Year 4 – S2 Year 5 – S3 Year 6 – S3 Making a Music Track – Interactive Workshop – 18th November ’24 2:00pm Session In this live workshop, students will work with our facilitator to explore music skills and techniques to express an idea or story.

Students will develop aural skills by exploring and recognising elements of music such as dynamics and rhythm. They will be invited to discuss the purpose and meanings behind music and then, collaborate with the facilitator to create their own compositions.

Through recording of sounds in their environment, pre-recorded sounds and learning some beatboxing skills, students will create and organise a series of sounds to express their story.

Using a smart phone or other digital device, students can capture their compositions and learn how to use technology to enhance their compositions. Students join our Indigenous tour guides for an interactive exploration of the Indigenous history of Tubowgule (Bennelong Point), the site on which Sydney Opera House sits. This oral history from the Aboriginal perspective will have students imagining this iconic Sydney place from creation time and the ancestral spirits who formed the landscape, to pre-settlement and the arrival of the First Fleet.

Students will learn about the daily life of the clan that inhabited Sydney Cove, the changes that came with the arrival of Governor Phillip and the first settlers, and the fascinating story of the man called Bennelong. Thalu – Stories Behind the Costumes

Students are invited to learn with professional costume designer and visual artists for a behind-the-scenes experience of the Thalu series. Year 3 – S2 Year 4 – S2 Year 5 – S3 Year 6 – S3 Thalu – Stories Behind the Costumes Suitable for Years 3-6, this learning resource shares an interview with creatives and behind-the-scenes footage exploring costumes from the 10-part children’s television series, Thalu. It is structured so that students can work through the resource independently or as a class. By working through the short learning tasks and video interviews, students discover the importance of what we wear on screen first-hand from Thalu costume designer Kylie Clifford.
