History | Year 3 – Year 6 

This interactive session for Stage 2 and 3 students uses portraiture to provide opportunities for learners to develop and deepen their understanding of Australian history. Evidence, continuity and change, cause and effect, perspectives and empathy will be used as tools to investigate portraits in our collection within their historical context.

Making a Music Track – Interactive Workshop – 18th November ’24 2:00pm Session

Fusing technology & music, students will develop their music-making skills while collaborating with a live artist to express themselves musically. Year 3 – S2 Year 4 – S2 Year 5 – S3 Year 6 – S3 Making a Music Track – Interactive Workshop – 18th November ’24 2:00pm Session In this live workshop, students will work with our facilitator to explore music skills and techniques to express an idea or story.

Students will develop aural skills by exploring and recognising elements of music such as dynamics and rhythm. They will be invited to discuss the purpose and meanings behind music and then, collaborate with the facilitator to create their own compositions.

Through recording of sounds in their environment, pre-recorded sounds and learning some beatboxing skills, students will create and organise a series of sounds to express their story.

Using a smart phone or other digital device, students can capture their compositions and learn how to use technology to enhance their compositions. Through the lens of the Visual Arts curriculum, students will explore portraits of and by First Nations people in the National Portrait Collection.

Fusing technology & movement, students will develop their visual storytelling skills and collaborate with a live artist to create a movement-based animation. Year 7 – S4 Year 8 – S4 Making a Music Video: with Motion Capture – Interactive Workshop 23rd October ’24 2pm high school session The team are all here at the Sydney Opera House to create a new music video, but there’s one key role missing….the choreographer! Luckily our students have shown up online to take on this important role.
With the help of the motion capture performers, the students are guided through making the artistic decisions to create a music video. They will engage in movement activities to uncover the story they want to tell and decide how they can capture that story through visual storytelling.
Students will be introduced to all the key people in their team. They will experience how to create a dance piece, both from a production and creative perspective.
At the end, we’ll capture your best moves, fusing our technology with your creativity. But will the music video sink or soar? The creative team will decide!
For the best experience we recommend no more than 30 students per booking

History | Year 3 – Year 6 

This interactive session for Stage 2 and 3 students uses portraiture to provide opportunities for learners to develop and deepen their understanding of Australian history. Evidence, continuity and change, cause and effect, perspectives and empathy will be used as tools to investigate portraits in our collection within their historical context.

About the AVA Challenge
This is a FREE 9-step STEM design sprint based on challenges facing NASA’s Artemis and the Australian space industry. Hear space industry speakers & choose from several STEM design sprints based on challenges facing the Australian space industry.

AVA teams will choose from a set of six scenarios and design a solution presented in the form of either a 90-second video pitch or poster. A number of teams will then be selected to pitch their ideas at the Young Space Explorers event in December in Sydney!

Who is the challenge for?

The challenge is ideal for students in Years 5 – 10 and specifically suited to students studying iSTEM, Science, Mandatory Technology, or primary science and technology classes. There are different entry levels for the challenge:

Stage 3 – Years 5 and 6
Stage 4 – Years 7 and 8
