Take a journey through time to learn about the waves of migration to Australia’s shores. Year 5 – S3 Year 6 – S3 Going Places: Migration to Australia We have unearthed from our collections, amazing primary sources and incredible stories of people’s lives. We’ll investigate their reasons for migrating, uncover different journeys over the sea to understand the experience of people who left everything familiar, to embark on a new life in Australia.

This interactive art making lesson is for students involved in The Arts Unit Home Program.
Ngemba artist Andy Snelgar creates intricate, sculpted, and carved wooden objects.
Andy’s artworks continue an important and vital Indigenous cultural practice, and they show us how important it is to be connected to Country.
This event gives students and teachers participating in the 2022 Home program the opportunity to work with a professional Aboriginal artist in the creation of an artwork in their own school. Home, an expansive three-term program, connects professional Aboriginal artists, students, and teachers with local regional galleries and the Art Gallery of NSW to explore cultural practice and art making. The program includes professional development for teachers followed by the support to deliver a bespoke visual arts program for Stage 3 students culminating in an exhibition at your regional gallery.

Students will learn about the power of their mind and hear some top tips and ‘tricks’ to help them develop their mental fitness & overcome challenges. Year 3 – S2 Year 4 – S2 Year 5 – S3 Year 6 – S3 AUTHOR TALK- THE GREATFULNESS GUIDE w/ JACQUI JONES A wonderful opportunity to hear from Jacqui Jones, Author of  ‘The Greatfulness Guide; How to Think, Not what to Think’.  A young person’s guidebook to all things mental health and wellbeing!

Students will learn about the power of their mind and hear some of Jacqui’s top tips and ‘tricks’ when it comes to developing their mental fitness and overcoming challenges.

Jacqui is also the Founder of the Greatfulness wellbeing program, which has been reviewed by BE YOU BEYOND BLUE and is included in their programs directory.   The Greatfulness program has already been taught to thousands of primary school children around Australia.

Discovering Pesach, the Festival of Freedom

Ever wondered about the Jewish festival of Pesach? What is Matzah? And why is a story about slavery in Egypt thousands of years ago relevant to us today? Year 3 – S2 Year 4 – S2 Year 5 – S3 Year 6 – S3 Discovering Pesach, the Festival of Freedom The Sydney Jewish Museum invites your primary students to a complimentary live and interactive Pesach workshop, facilitated by a Museum Educator. This 45-minute online program will introduce students to the traditions and symbolism associated with this important festival.

DURING THE WORKSHOP, STUDENTS WILL:

Discover what Pesach is and why it is celebrated.
Learn what foods are traditionally eaten – what foods are avoided – and why.
See and uncover the meaning of the Seder and the Seder Plate.

Digital Talk with Li Cunxin 10:30am AEDT 30th March Years 5-10

Hear from Li Cunxin AO, author of Mao’s Last Dancer and Artistic Director of the QLD Ballet. His memoir tells the story of adapting to change and overcoming adversity. Year 5 – S3 Year 6 – S3 Year 7 – S4 Year 8 – S4 Year 9 – S5 Year 10 – S5 Digital Talk with Li Cunxin 10:30am AEDT 30th March Years 5-10 Li was born in China and was selected to study at Beijing Dance Academy, upon his graduation, he received a cultural exchange scholarship to America.  Li subsequently became principal dancer with Houston Ballet and then The Australian Ballet and won multiple prestigious dance awards. He retired from dancing in 1999 and made a successful career transition from ballet into finance.

In 2003, Li published his international best-selling autobiography, “Mao’s Last Dancer”, which quickly rose to number one on the Australian bestseller list. This book also won multiple awards and was adapted into a blockbuster film in 2009.

Li is currently the Artistic Director of Queensland Ballet.

Li’s story is a living example of adapting to changes, overcoming adversity and achieving excellence in life.

If your students have a question that they would like to ask, you will have the opportunity to record it and send it in for Li to answer on the day. This talk will look at Brickman, Ryan McNaught’s relationship with LEGO®, innovation and problem solving through creativity. Year 3 – S2 Year 4 – S2 Year 5 – S3 Year 6 – S3 Year 7 – S4 Year 8 – S4 Digital Talk with Brickman, Ryan McNaught 10:30am AEDT 22nd March Years 3-7 Ryan McNaught, aka “The Brickman” is a LEGO® certified Professional, one of only 14 in the world and the only one in the Southern Hemisphere. In 2019 he joined Australia’s Channel Nine’s new hit TV show LEGO Masters Australia as the main competition judge along side host Hamish Blake.

Originally from the corporate world, Ryan’s creativity was limited and bound by the constraints of his job, however the ability to express and create through a unique medium offered him an amazing opportunity, the ability to create something that both children and adults alike can be inspired by.

So far he has, along with his team of brick artists and craftspeople, created 6 world-touring exhibitions of LEGO brick creations, as well as countless models for LEGO stores, LEGO offices and private commissions.

This talk will look at Brickman’s relationship with LEGO®, innovation and problem solving through creativity.
