How accurate is our memory? Let’s Find Out!

Do you remember at what time you woke up today? Or when was the last time you watched your favourite movie? Get ready to learn what affects memory through a series of investigation. Year 7 – S4 Year 8 – S4 Year 9 – S5 Year 10 – S5 How accurate is our memory? Let’s Find Out! Memory plays a critical role in our survival which helps us to understand our behaviour and surrounding, and to reflect on the past to inform our future. But have you thought about what goes behind the scenes when you try to remember something? Your memory is like a jigsaw puzzle! When you try to remember an incident, you have to put the jigsaw pieces together. You might recall the incident correctly, or sometimes make an error. And often you may also miss a piece to complete the puzzle when you completely forgot about a specific part of the incident or take a piece from some other puzzle, i.e. from a different situation.

Join provisional psychologist, Priyadharshany Sandanapitchai to explore how far your memory can hold information accurately and what factors affect what you remember. Ready to test your memory? Chau Chak Wing Museum virtual tour

Step virtually into Chau Chak Wing Museum, the University of Sydney’s museum of art, science, history and ancient cultures and find the unexpected… Year 11 – S6 Chau Chak Wing Museum virtual tour In collaboration with the University of Sydney, the Department of Education created a virtual tour of the Chau Chak Museum and associated teaching resources.

The Chau Chak Wing Museum holds the extensive collections of the University of Sydney, more than 400,000 cultural artefacts, natural history specimens and artworks. Included in the collection is the largest collection of antiquities from the Mediterranean, Middle East and Europe in the country, from the Nicholson Collection, and significant First Nations and Pasifika cultural items from the Macleay Collection. The museum has artefacts representing ancient cultures spanning from the pre-Neolithic to the late medieval period, including Egyptian, Near Eastern, Greek and Roman materials. These artefacts hold intimate stories of people’s everyday lives, ancient environments, and cultural activity for over more than 10,000 years.

This project developed a range of short films that examined several artefacts housed by the museum, and interviewed experts in their field on how they engage with these objects to learn more about human history.

The virtual excursion enables students and teachers in rural, regional and remote NSW to engage with the Chau Chak Museum in a way not previously available.

Guided and self-guided physical tours of the museum are also available for visiting school groups.
