They’ll look at aspects of biography, identity, and culture; discover different styles, mediums and movements; and learn through discussion, activity and drawing.

About the AVA Challenge
This is a FREE 9-step STEM design sprint based on challenges facing NASA’s Artemis and the Australian space industry. Hear space industry speakers & choose from several STEM design sprints based on challenges facing the Australian space industry.

AVA teams will choose from a set of six scenarios and design a solution presented in the form of either a 90-second video pitch or poster. A number of teams will then be selected to pitch their ideas at the Young Space Explorers event in December in Sydney!

Who is the challenge for?

The challenge is ideal for students in Years 5 – 10 and specifically suited to students studying iSTEM, Science, Mandatory Technology, or primary science and technology classes. There are different entry levels for the challenge:

Making a Music Track – Interactive Workshop – 8th May ’24 2:00pm Session

Fusing technology & music, students will develop their music-making skills while collaborating with a live artist to express themselves musically. Year 3 – S2 Year 4 – S2 Year 5 – S3 Year 6 – S3 Making a Music Track – Interactive Workshop – 8th May ’24 2:00pm Session In this live workshop, students will work with our facilitator to explore music skills and techniques to express an idea or story.

Students will develop aural skills by exploring and recognising elements of music such as dynamics and rhythm. They will be invited to discuss the purpose and meanings behind music and then, collaborate with the facilitator to create their own compositions.

Through recording of sounds in their environment, pre-recorded sounds and learning some beatboxing skills, students will create and organise a series of sounds to express their story.

Using a smart phone or other digital device, students can capture their compositions and learn how to use technology to enhance their compositions. Year 11 – S6 Year 12 – S6 Teacher Parent HSC Study Lab HSC Study Lab is an online study resource created by Macquarie University to support Year 11 and 12 students and teachers in their preparation for the HSC.

Our courses are developed by Macquarie University academics and experienced school teachers to align with the NSW syllabus. Educational course content is delivered through video lessons, interactive activities and practice quizzes and is designed to support your students in developing a greater understanding of course content, prepare for assessments and aid their exam revision. Australian Virtual Astronaut Challenge – Robotics for Space

Learn about an Australian-designed lunar rover scheduled to go to the moon in an Artemis mission!
Special guests from the Australian Remote Operations for Space and Earth (AROSE) consortium & more Year 4 – S2 Year 5 – S3 Year 6 – S3 Year 7 – S4 Year 8 – S4 Year 9 – S5 Year 10 – S5 Australian Virtual Astronaut Challenge – Robotics for Space Did you know that Australia is sending a rover to the Moon called Roo-ver?
In this webinar, you will hear from a team that is creating a robot to survive lunar conditions to represent Australia in a joint initiative between the Australian Space Agency and NASA.

NASA will launch the rover in a future Artemis mission. The rover will support global space science and exploration goals. It will also demonstrate Australian innovations on the Moon.

Program developed and delivered on 22 March 2024 in collaboration with the National Gallery of Victoria. Year 5 – S3 Year 6 – S3 Year 7 – S4 Year 8 – S4 EXPLORE WATERCOLOUR With Fiona McMonagle This virtual event will show students how images and artworks inspire Fiona’s art-making practice.

Participants will also see how an artist experiments with materials and techniques throughout the different stages of developing an artwork. Follow along in the classroom as Fiona demonstrates different watercolour techniques that students can further develop and use to create unique works of art.

This program will also include suggestions for art-making activities that you can implement in the art room or classroom beyond the event.

Students will:

engage in some of the developmental stages of the creative process under the guidance of a practicing artist
experiment with watercolour paints to create different effects on paper
develop painting techniques that can be applied to the development of an artwork. Free National Portrait Gallery ABOUT THE ARTIST
Melbourne-based artist Fiona McMonagle is known for her watercolour portraits. She pushes the boundaries of ink and watercolour by exploring its use in moving image as well as creating large-scale works. Since graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting), Fiona has exhibited extensively throughout Australia, both in highly successful solo exhibitions as well as curated group shows. Most recently she exhibited as part of Portrait23: Identity at the National Portrait Gallery, and the Art Gallery of South Australia as part of the exhibition Frida and Diego: Love and Revolution. Her work is held in numerous public collections including the National Gallery of Victoria, Art Gallery of New South Wales, Art Gallery of South Australia, National Portrait Gallery, Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery, Monash University Museum of Art, UQ Art Museum, Newcastle Regional Art Gallery, Artbank and Maitland Regional Art Gallery.
