What is Memory? – Drama in the classroom (Early Stage 1, Stage 1)

This lesson encourages students to connect with their own memories and show the value in sharing them, by listening and telling stories about significant objects.
ACTIVITY OUTLINE:
How it works:
We provide a lesson plan and instructional educational videos led by ATYP Teaching Artists, who will talk you through drama and literacy exercises that can be used in your classroom. You can follow along with your class, or watch them for your own professional learning before you teach the lesson.
Activities:
- Egg Memories: Students relate objects to memories from the past through a drama and mime exercise.
- Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge: Using the book Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge by Mem Fox, students discuss how stories of the past can be told and shared.
Students will:
- Develop an understanding that objects can relate to memories from the past.
- Form connections between the text Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge and their own experience.
- Make valid inferences using the information in the text and their own prior knowledge.
