ATYP is the national youth theatre company, offering workshops, productions, and artist in residence programs for primary and secondary schools. ATYP also provides digital Education resources for teachers and students including ATYP On Demand and the recently launched ATYP On Demand Plus – a digital platform that uses drama and literacy strategies to teach the F-6 Australian Curriculum.
ATYP exists to help young people find their voice and believes that involvement in theatre develops confidence, creativity and community. It challenges us to reflect on and better understand ourselves and the society of which we are a part.
In 2016 ATYP commissioned the research agency PatternMakers to evaluate the impact of youth theatre on young peoples’ mental health and wellbeing. The results showed that taking part in theatre is overwhelmingly positive for young people’s mental health in both the long and short term.
