Sydney Science Trail 2021 – ANSTO’s National Science Week Hackathon
Aug

Ready, steady, hack: ANSTO’s National Science Week Hackathon is back – and you’re invited!
Bring innovation to your classroom with this free, fast-paced, virtual hackathon for Australian students in years 7-11.
Because it’s the United Nations’ International Year of Fruits and Vegetables, the National Science Week theme Food: Different by Design covers a broad range of areas in food production and sustainable agriculture. Students can explore topics, such as biosecurity, food technology, managing food waste, and more. In the true spirit of National Science Week, apply science to solve real-world problems.
ANSTO’s National Science Week Hackathon event 2021 will include:
- A Teacher Professional Development course – an in depth look at how to facilitate Design Thinking in the classroom and how it can foster innovation and creativity in students. This course includes pre-reading, a webinar, an interactive mini-challenge, and a resource book. (Approval for NESA/TQI accreditation TBC, can be used as elective hours)
- Opportunities for students to collaborate with design, STEM and industry professionals to unpack and understand real-world food related problems and come up with solutions to ensure a sustainable food future.
- A Thought for Food virtual panel discussion and Q&A with the innovators, entrepreneurs and scientists behind some of the ground-breaking research in food science and sustainability.
- A live event showcase and winner’s announcement, with $3000 in prize money, science medals and bragging rights on the line for schools in the junior (Yr7-8) and senior (Yr9-11) division.
