Fly into Kamay Botany Bay. See the natural & human features of a garden & draw a fantasy garden map. Students make a nature map based on their fantasy garden.

ACTIVITY OUTLINE:

Going places flies us into Kamay Kurnell Botany Bay. Students see the land and sea from a bird’s eye perspective. Students learn about maps. What makes a place special to them? Students look at the natural and human features of a garden and are inspired to draw a fantasy garden map. They make a nature map, using natural and everyday materials, based on their fantasy garden.

During the lesson Stage 1 students will:

Identify features of a garden and design an ideal garden
Learn how to add leaf impressions to a nature journal
Learn how to use a compass
Create a nature map using natural materials

This lesson explores concepts and practices through a variety of educational, fun, and hands-on activities, using an interactive platform with NSW Department of Education Environmental Education teachers.
