Through the lens of the Visual Arts curriculum, students will explore portraits of and by First Nations people in the National Portrait Collection.

ACTIVITY OUTLINE:

First Nations | Year 3 – 6 

This program identifies significant events and ideas in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, through key individuals who have shaped the political and cultural developments involved. 

Key curriculum links: 

  • Explore ideas and artworks from different cultures and times, including artwork by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, to use as inspiration for their own representations [ACAVAM110] 
  • Explore ideas and practices used by artists, including practices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, to represent different views, beliefs and opinions [ACAVAM114] 
  • Explain how visual arts conventions communicate meaning by comparing artworks from different social, cultural and historical contexts, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artworks [ACAVAR117] 

Please ensure each student has access to paper and pencils for the drawing activity.

Students require some sheets of paper and a pencil/crayon/texta to draw with.

This virtual learning program will be delivered via Zoom. Upon booking, you will be sent a link to follow.

To facilitate the best possible experience we require a teacher to rename the Zoom connection to appropriately reflect those behind the camera. Your school name, student level/s and student numbers is preferred eg. Nolan PS – Year 5 – 30

We prefer you have your cameras turned on as it assists to aid participant interaction with our shared community.
