Explore the new Platypus Rescue Head Quarters at Dubbo (Stage 2, Stage 3, Stage 4, Stage 5, Stage 6)
Every kid should get to see a Platypus in their lifetime, and we’re making sure that they can. Learn about the Platypus Rescue Headquarters at the Zoo in Dubbo.
ACTIVITY OUTLINE:
The building you are going to explore today is part of the world’s largest conservation centre for Platypus, Platypus Rescue HQ.
It involves a refuge facility, a research facility, and a recovery facility, and for the first time, Platypus is on display at Taronga Western Plains Zoo. Hear from Zoo keeper, James as he shares about the platypus, special features and their needs.
“ Climate change is one of the biggest threats to our beautiful Platypus. Droughts, floods, all of it impacts on their lives and the ability for us to have a facility where we can move them, save them, rehabilitate them, and put them back into the wild is an incredible opportunity, but also a responsibility.
Every kid should get to see a Platypus in their lifetime, and we’re making sure that they can.”
The Hon. Penny Sharpe, NSW Minister for Environment.
