Carla Fitzgerald: Keeping up with the picture books (Early Stage 1, Stage 1)

Join author Carla Fitzgerald for this fun and interactive session about creating humorous picture books.
ACTIVITY OUTLINE:
Carla will read her debut picture book, Keeping up with the Dachshunds, a hilarious parody about friendship, jealousy and discovering what you love. Laugh along with Carla’s animal jokes as she shares her tips and tricks for writing great characters, adding humour to stories and how the writing process can sometimes be a bit ruff.
Students will need paper and a pencil.
About the book
Keeping up is RUFF! As Jet the dog discovers in this hilarious parody. Jet only has three biscuits and a joke to tell. After trying unsuccessfully to keep up with the Dachshunds, she realises this is more than enough to make a true friend!

Carla Fitzgerald is a writer, a recovered lawyer and mum of three, from Sydney. Carla has honours degrees in arts (English Literature) and law. Before she discovered the joys of making stuff up, she worked for a judge, in private practice and at the Australian Human Rights Commission.
Carla is also a tutor with the Australian Writers Centre. She is a Books in Homes Role Model and a Coach with the Harding Miller Education Foundation

Technology and Materials Requirements
This virtual excursion will be held online via Zoom. You will be sent the link to join with your booking confirmation.
Students can connect to our virtual excursions when learning from home. As a teacher, you will only need to register once to receive a link you can share with your students.
During the session, students will be able to ask questions by writing in the chat and they will not share any audio or video. All messages will be visible to the presenters but not to any other students.
When students use the link to join the virtual excursion they may be asked to download Zoom if they don’t already have it installed. They do not need to set up a Zoom account to participate.

This virtual excursion will be held online via Zoom. You will be sent the link to join with your booking confirmation. Please advise us of any cancellations ahead of time to enable another school to fill your space. We are unable to provide technical assistance during the conference so please ensure you have tested your equipment and are comfortable trouble-shooting during the session if necessary.
