Essential Energy

EE-Empowering-Teal-on-White-background-1

Essential Energy builds, operates and maintains the electricity network across 95 per cent of New South Wales and parts of southern Queensland. The business maintains and develops the infrastructure – the poles and wires – that delivers power to more than 880,000 homes and businesses, 170 hospitals and 1,250 schools.

Safety is at the heart of everything we do, with our teams maintaining a safe and reliable network for the communities in which we live and work.

As part of our commitment to safety, we deliver the Electricity Safety Week (ESW) program to primary schools. The program raises awareness of the hazards associated with electricity and teaches students how to be safe around electricity. The resources have been developed in collaboration with the NSW Department of Education to meet the Science and Technology and PDHPE curriculum requirements for years K – 6.

Schools who register for the program are sent a supporting resource pack to help deliver classroom activities, which includes safety posters and material, a simple circuit kit, competitions, student prizes and more.

To sign up to Electricity Safety Week or for a full suite of online resources visit our website.

On our website you will find the Stage 3 Electricity & Safety Lesson Book with STEM design challenges and complementary interactive whiteboard lessons with videos and virtual activities. In 2023, we have also launched a new Scratch Coding project in collaboration with Code Club Australia. You can also download Social Stories which help teachers to communicate electricity safety messages to students with special needs.

Need some new supplies for the classroom? Would a $350 voucher* to Modern Teaching Aids help? All schools registered for Electricity Safety Week 2023 and located in the Essential Energy network area, with classes involved in any of our three ‘Be a Safety Star’ competitions, will go into the draw to win a Modern Teaching Aids voucher – think what you could buy for your classroom! There will be three draws – one for each competition.
