World Environment Day – POEM FOREST Workshop (Primary) (Stage 2, Stage 3)
Jun

POEM FOREST is a free nature writing prize that invites students and teachers to use words to make positive climate action.
ACTIVITY OUTLINE:
Created by Red Room Poetry, in partnership with Wollongong City Council, POEM FOREST deepens our connection and breathes life back into the world that sustains us. For every nature poem received a tree is planted to help heal endangered habitats. We’ve planted 10,700+ poem trees in the last two years!
This workshop celebrates World Environment Day with an exciting Red Room Poetry poet to guide primary students through writing activities from our curriculum-aligned learning resource to help craft nature poems and enrich learning outcomes across sustainability, First Nations cultures & histories, English & Science.
All POEM FOREST Prize entries will be published and in the running for $5,000 worth of prizes, including $500 cash, book packs, Garden tours, seeds and more! Teachers should allow additional class time to edit and submit poems to the prize via our digital entry form. This can be a fun digital literacy task.

Presenter Bio
Red Room Poetry (RR) is Australia’s leading organisation for commissioning, creating, publishing and promoting poetry in meaningful ways. Our poetic projects are created in collaboration with a spectrum of poets, communities and partners for positive impact in core areas of environment, amplification, First Nations, youth and marginalised voices. We aim to make poetry highly visible, vibrant, relevant and accessible, especially to those who face the greatest barriers to creative opportunities.
