Voices of Migration: Introduction to sources session 1 (First Fleet) (Stage 2, Stage 3, Stage 4, Stage 5)
Sep

In this special History Week webinar, learn about different historical sources and discover what they can tell us about First Fleet convict Thomas Barratt.
ACTIVITY OUTLINE:
To celebrate NSW History Week, we are inviting students from across Australia to join us for an introduction to historical sources (also a great refresher for older students). Discover the difference between Primary and Secondary Sources and discuss the different insights they can give us into the past. We will also be considering possible flaws, missing information and bias present in these sources, while appreciating the different perspectives they provide on these complex stories.
Session 1 (11am) will be looking at the story of First Fleet convict Thomas Barratt and highlight primary written sources as well as objects from the time.
The second session (2pm) will look at 2 stories of post Federation migration. The journey of Heinz & Gisela Bernhard introduces the use of photography, while Gina Sinozich’s beautiful art will hopefully inspire students’ own creative works. Book here Voices of Migration: Introduction to sources session 2 (Post Federation) – DART Learning
Classes are welcome to attend both sessions or just one, whatever works best for your class.
