A fun and interactive program where students learn about the Westminster system and how democracy developed in Australia, as well as how the Parliament of NSW works and laws are made.
ACTIVITY OUTLINE:
This program is based on the History K–10 NSW Syllabus for the Australian Curriculum: Civics and Citizenship.
Years 5/6 students will learn about
- the development of democracy in the early colony of NSW
- the Westminster based bicameral system and the function of the Chambers
- the levels of government
- how laws are made
- the current state Member and their role in the NSW Parliament
- the role of the Serjeant-at-Arms and the Usher of the Black Rod

Presenter Bio
Our videoconferencing programs have been delivered by John, an educator and actor for nearly a decade. A trained and highly-experienced teacher, John came to the Parliament with twenty years’ experience delivering engaging and interactive programs to K-12 students in a number of Sydney cultural institutions. We consistently receive very positive feedback from teachers as to his ability to both entertain and convey knowledge to Stage 3 students.

Each booking is for a maximum of 30 students. A school with 120 students will need to book 4 slots in one session. This will ensure the best experience for the students and the interactive nature of the program.
