  16-Mar-2022      09:30AM
Live Event
16
Mar

Virtual Excursions Australia is supporting schools across Australia by providing discounted live and engaging virtual events available via DART Learning.

ACTIVITY OUTLINE:

Saving the planet can be fun by turning trash into treasure and creating exciting eco-artworks! Come join the Eco-Art movement in this live and interactive virtual workshop with The Bowerbird Herd.

Journey with us through the threatened mangrove ecosystem at Sydney Olympic Park, and be inspired by creative visual artist Nichola Bryan, as she transforms the collected trash into a beautiful piece of eco-art right in front of your eyes! Students will then begin creating their own sustainable artworks by upcycling materials collected at school and home. Objects will be manipulated and arranged to depict threatened and endangered species or landscapes.

Technology and Materials Requirements

This is a hands on workshop, and your students will be creating an artwork at the same time, so it is important that you come prepared with the following resources:

Resource List

You will be provided with a selection of animal templates to print on A4 or A3 paper which your students will transform into an eco-art masterpiece!

Please prepare:

Scissors for every student.
Craft glue that dries clear (gluing the artworks is optional).
Rigid cardboard pieces collected from boxes to act as canvases onto which animal templates can be glued. The rigid
cardboard will also enable unfinished artworks to be easily moved off classroom desks.
Class camera for students to photograph completed works.
Collected items from school and home that are unwanted and can be repurposed into art. Avoid sharp, dangerous or dirty/greasy things and ensure waste items are washed in hot soapy water and dried before bringing to school. Examples include: Clothing (rags); Empty plastic bottles / bottle lids; Empty food packaging (washed); Empty cleaning / toiletries packaging (washed); Old electrical / technology items e.g. old cables / chargers / CDs; Bread Tags; Fruit netted bags and fruit stickers; Paper scraps / newspaper / catalogues / magazines / junk mail; Ribbon / gift wrap / gift bags; Small broken toys; Plastic straws; Coffee cups and their lids; Plastic shopping bags.

One additional hour of time to complete student artworks.

Technology

A large screen/television/smart board etc. that can be seen by the whole class
Working speakers that are connected and checked prior to the workshop so all students can hear
We recommend you check your audio and visual equipment, and bandwidth at the following link: https://zoom.us/test
