Theatre Complicité: Can I Live? (Stage 4, Stage 5, Stage 6)
Engage your students in this vital performance about the climate catastrophe along with a package of related digital resources exploring the biggest challenge of our time
ACTIVITY OUTLINE:
In Complicité’s Can I Live? artist, Fehinti Balogun uses spoken word, rap, theatre, animation and the scientific facts to chart a course through the fundamental issues underpinning the climate emergency, identifying the intimate relationship between the environmental crisis & the global struggle for social justice.
To mark both World Environment and World Ocean Days, Sydney Opera House are offering an education package to all Australian Schools that includes the Full Performance of Can I Live? a filmed Q&A about the work and a series of films by First Nations filmmakers looking at the climate catastrophe. These resources will all explore the question of inclusivity in environmental activism and how people of colour have been excluded from this space.
In the face of a sense of helplessness about the climate catastrophe, Can I Live? is an outstretched hand, inviting audiences to recognise they are not alone – and that through understanding the issues and connecting with the many powerful activists around the globe driving change, we can find a sense of hope for the future.
