Shape 2020: Design Materiality with Rachel Vosila (Stage 5, Stage 6, Teacher)
Aimed at designers and makers in Year 11 and 12. Meet Rachel Vosila as she explores material experimentation and theoretical inquiry. Produced for SHAPE 2020 in collaboration with NESA.
ACTIVITY OUTLINE:
This is a recording of a live webinar that was filmed and recorded live at the Powerhouse Museum on 25 March, 2021. A link to the webinar recording will be sent after you book your place.
Rachel Vosila is multidisciplinary designer and maker working mostly across object and furniture outcomes.
While Rachel’s practice is still developing, her recent work centres around principles of allegory, material experimentation and theoretical inquiry. During this live webinar, we’ll explore how materiality influences and impacts on the design, user, environment, and concept of an object.
This session is aimed at young designers and makers in Year 11 and 12 as part of our suite of digital programs celebrating Shape 2020, on display at the Powerhouse Museum. Shape is the Museum’s annual showcase of exemplary work from the previous year’s HSC projects in Design and Technology, Industrial Technology and Textiles and Design, produced in collaboration with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).

SPECIAL GUESTS:
Rachel Vosila initially entered the Bachelor of Design at UNSW thinking she would focus on a career in Graphic Design. However upon arrival at UNSW Art & Design’s Paddington campus, Rachel realised she could seize opportunities to expand her horizons. The many design disciplines on offer within the degree radically widened her perspective. Over the next few years of undergraduate study, Rachel explored Object, Environments, and Graphic Design. She says that one of the highlights of her degree was the chance to display her major project at the 2013 Annual Graduation Exhibition which was attended by thousands of visitors including potential employers, creative industry leaders, outstanding artists and design practitioners.
