ACTIVITY OUTLINE:
Join the Fizzics Team for live science;
- 20 x Live, interactive 40-minute science classes designed for a broad range of ages.
- Includes a Friday trivia session to test what you’ve learned.
- Guided by science educators highly experienced in online delivery of multi-award-winning programs.
- Curriculum-linked sessions
- Run in a secure online space using Zoom Webinar.
- Recordings available up until March 31
- The price is per device – your whole household can join with a single ticket, though for optimal experience we recommend no more than 3 children per device.
Costs – for all of February 2023
- Early bird $40 inc. GST valid until 31 January (that’s 20 classes for $2.00 each class!)
- Or $50 inc. GST for bookings made in February (that’s 20 classes for $2.50 each class!)
- OR $1200 inc. GST for a GRADE of 90 students (that’s 20 classes for $13.33 per student at $0.66 per lesson!). We will work with you to distribute zoom links to your fellow teachers.

Week 1 – Chemistry
- Addresses acids & bases, states of matter, separating mixtures and chemical reactions
- January 30 to February 3 at 2:00pm AEDT (Sydney UTC +11)
Student outcomes
A student:
- will understand the difference between chemical and physical reactions
- will be able to list the names of changes in states of matter
- will understand different techniques scientists use to separate mixtures
Week 2 – The Living World
- Addresses the major human body systems (no reproduction), plants, life cycles, insects and adaptations
- February 6 to February 10 at 2:00pm AEDT (Sydney UTC +11)
Student outcomes
A student:
- will be able to name major body organs and describe their function
- will be able to name flower parts and describe their function
- will understand body components in insects
- will learn about comparative anatomy and its use in biology
Week 3 – Fantastic Physics
- Addresses friction, forces, inertia angular momentum & energy transformations
- February 13 to 17 at 2:00pm AEDT (Sydney UTC +11)

A student:
- will understand the 3 laws of motion
- will learn about conservation of energy
Week 4 – Maths and Engineering
- Addresses probability, measurement, scale & engineering with different materials
- February 20 to February 24 at 2:00pm AEDT (Sydney UTC +11)

A student:
- will learn to interpret graphs, sampling errors and the use of averages in statistics
- will learn about ratios and their use in predictive biology
- will use fine motor skills and planning to test built structures

These programs will be run via Zoom Webinar. After booking, you will receive an automated email from Zoom with details of how to join the sessions.
- The joining link you receive is UNIQUE to you, and should NOT be shared with others.
- Make sure you are using the SAME email address entered for the booking to join the Zoom webinar.
For interactivity and child safety, please join using an adult’s email address, your child’s first name, and no last name.
HOW DO THESE SESSIONS WORK?
Attendees will be able to see and hear our presenter(s) but we won’t be able to see or hear you. You will get lots of chances to ask and answer questions via text-based Q&A and live polling.
Do I have to provide anything?
Completely optional! On booking, you will receive an invitation to receive emails each weekday morning that detail the easy-to-source materials that you can use to make the session hands-on. These materials are not essential – we will show the same materials on-screen regardless.

Week 1 – Optional materials needed for hands-on activities

- Bicarbonate soda, icing mixture & citric acid (found in herb & spice aisle of supermarket), 600mL soft drink bottle, vinegar, funnel, balloon, spoon, towels for spills
January 31
- N/A
February 1
- Two white plates, full cream milk, 3 food colours (you can do this with 1 colour if needed), detergent, skittles, cup of water, sugar, spoon, towels for spills
February 2
- 2 x Tall & clear glass of water, vegetable oil, different food colours, straws, assorted water solubale coloured markers (textas), white paper towelling, scissors, towels for spills
February 3 – TRIVIA

Week 2 Optional materials needed for hands-on activities
February 6
- Something to make imprints in (e.g. playdoh, plasticine, modelling clay, blu-tack, or a small bowl of flour or sand), Something to make imprints of (e.g. shells or small toys or coins)
February 7
- Skewer/toothpick, colour pencils or textas, blank paper, Flowers, leaves or seed pods (at least one flower would be great)
February 8
- Paper, pencil, 600ml soft drink bottle , packet of balloons, tape, rubber band, straw, play doh or plasticine, scissors + adult help to make the first cut on the bottle (you may need a craft knife… adult use only)
February 9
- Some paper for drawing on (baking paper works well), Coloured crayons or pencils, Coins or leaves with distinct veins
February 10 – TRIVIA

Week 3 – Optional materials needed for hands-on activities
February 13
- 2 paper circles of the same size (can trace with a mug or cup and cut out), A kebab skewer/chopstick/long pencil, Sticky tape, Textas or colour pencils
February 14
- Paper cup, something to poke a hole in the paper cup with, cotton twine, paper clip, scissors, wet sponge or cloth
February 15
- String, scissors, balloons, sticky tape, straw
February 16
- Balloon, tape, paper towelling, pen, scissors, empty & dry soft drink can
February 17 – TRIVIA

Week 4 – Optional materials needed for hands-on activities

- Pencil case with assorted pencils, pens, erasers, sharpeners etc plus a calculator

- Lots of A4 paper and weights such as coins or even a stack of books

- Straws, masking tape, 20 paddle pop sticks (wooden ice-cream sticks) rubber band, marshmallows or paper
