Power, People and Protest: Celebrating the Franklin River (Stage 3, Stage 4, Stage 5)
Jun

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the High Court decision to save the Franklin River. Join us as we step back in time to explore the rich debate surrounding the Franklin River and landmark High Court decision.
ACTIVITY OUTLINE:
Join creators of the Franklin: A journey to the past. A quest for the future, lead protagonist and co-producer Oliver Cassidy and producer Chris Kamen as we explore the historic story of the Franklin River. Students will view short clips from the outstanding documentary, get a behind the scenes insight from Chris and Oliver, as well as engage in a live Q&A.
As part of this experience students will also connect with educators from the High Court of Australia, Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House and the National Portrait Gallery. Through storytelling, object interpretation and significant artworks students will be transported into the past to the site of the debate, Australian Federal Parliament, and the landmark High Court decision. The National Portrait Gallery will introduce students to key figures including Bob Brown through portraiture.
