This two part teacher professional development session called “Can I Fall Down the Cracks?” is focused on common misconceptions that are encountered when teaching plate tectonics.

The student misconceptions addressed are:
- We can’t see the tectonic plates
- The mantle is made of liquid rock
- The plates move by convection in the mantle
- When plates collide one always goes under the other
