ACTIVITY OUTLINE:
Join the Fizzics Team for live science;
- 20 x Live, interactive 40-minute science classes designed for a broad range of ages.
- Includes a Friday trivia session to test what you’ve learned.
- Guided by science educators highly experienced in online delivery of multi-award-winning programs.
- Curriculum-linked sessions
- Run in a secure online space using Zoom Webinar.
- Recordings available up until April 30
- The price is per device – your whole household can join with a single ticket, though for optimal experience we recommend no more than 3 children per device.
Costs – for all of March 2023
- Early bird price $40 inc. GST valid until Feb 28 (20 classes for $2.00 each class!)
- OR $50 inc. GST for bookings in March (20 classes for $2.50 each class!)
- For an extra $25, get access to all of the recordings from the February subscription as well!
- OR $1200 inc. GST for a GRADE of 90 students (20 classes for $13.33 per student at $0.66 per lesson!).

Week 1 – Soace & FLight
- Addresses our solar system, Earth/Sun/Moon interactions, space flight, plane flight, seasons, weather & more
- March 6 to 10 at 4:00pm AEDT (Sydney UTC +11)
Student outcomes
A student:
- will learn the difference between stars, planets & moons
- will understand how eclipses and lunar phases form
- will learn about the solar system in terms of size, relative planet distances, orbits and more
- will learn about galaxies, black holes, nebulae, comets and more
- will learn how rockets get to space, why we explore space, what technologies allow us to return from space
Week 2 – Nature and our Environment
- Addresses natural disasters, geology, renewable energies and our oceans
- March 13 to 17 at 4:00pm AEDT (Sydney UTC +11)
Student outcomes
A student:
- will learn about the types of natural disasters
- will learn about the rock cycle and geological processes on earth
- will learn about different sources of renewable energy
- will learn about ocean currents and the abiotic factors affecting life
Week 3 – Mysterious Molecules
- Heat conduction, properties of materials, water properties, expansion, contraction, buoyancy, convection & more.
- March 20 to 24 at 4:00pm AEDT (Sydney UTC +11
Student outcomes
A student:
- will learn about heat conduction and its effects on solids, liquids and gases
- will learn about particle motion in relation to temperature
- will learn about the properties of water plus floating & sinking
Week 4 – Applied science
- Crime scene investigation, food science, making slimes and their applications
- March 27 to 31 at 4:00pm AEDT (Sydney UTC +11)
Student outcomes
A student:
- will learn about crime scene investigation techniques
- will learn fats, sugars, trace metals and more in foods
- will learn about different aspects of food technology
- will investigate different slimes and their useful properties

The Director Ben Newsome is a past ISTE PLN President for video conferencing and in 2013 completed a Winston Churchill Fellowship, undertaking a USA and Canada tour to study best practice in science education via video conference. How do these classes work?
Attendees will be able to see and hear our presenter(s) but we won’t be able to see or hear you. You will get lots of chances to ask and answer questions via text-based Q&A and live polling.
Do I have to provide anything?
Completely optional! These materials are not essential – we will show the same materials on-screen regardless.

These programs will be run via Zoom Webinar. After booking, you will receive an automated email from Zoom with details of how to join the sessions.
- The joining link you receive is UNIQUE to you, and should NOT be shared with others.

For interactivity and child safety, please join using an adult’s email address, your child’s first name, and no last name.
Do I have to supervise my child?
As a supervising adult, you acknowledge that you are responsible for the behaviour of the participants. You acknowledge that the Fizzics Education presenter is not a substitute for on-site parental supervision.
Younger children may need assistance with the hands-on activities. If you are not confident that your child can work alone with the materials listed, please provide supervision.
Are the sessions recorded?
Yes, we will record each session and send you the link.
The recordings will be live for a limited time and are there to help those who could not make a session.
Where is my Password for the Vimeo Showcase?
Please check your confirmation emails from Humanitx, you will find the password on the ticket as well as on the confirmation email.

Optional materials needed for hands-on activities
Week 1
March 6
- Oreo cookies, white paper plate, green and blue coloured markers, butter knife
March 7
- Two balls of different sizes (eg tennis ball and ping pong ball), desk lamp, white paper plate, dough or plasticine, pencil, coloured marker
March 8
- A book (that doesn’t mind being dropped), paper, carboard tube, dark paper, tape, skewer (to puncture small holes in the paper)
March 9
- Funnel, ping pong ball. Glass jar with lid (full of water), detergent, Shaving cream
February 10 – TRIVIA
We will be using Kahoot! Your child can participate by opening a new browser window and going to kahoot.it on the same device used to join the webinar.
Week 2
March 13
- Ping pong ball, toilet roll, tape, optional plate, baking tray with a sand pile on it, 1 cup of water, 1 empty cup, bicarbonate soda, vinager, detergent, food colouring, towels for spills
March 14
- Rocks of different types, nail, coin, different colours of dough or playdough (enough to fill up at least 4cm of the container), straw or sturdy tube, small container
March 15
- Pizza box, aluminium foil, scissors, clear plastic wrap (Glad wrap), wooden kebab stick, black plastic garbage bag, tape
March 16
- Lemonade or soda water, clear plastic cup, sultanas, towels for spills
March 17 – TRIVIA

Week 3
March 20
- 2 Ice cubes (with extra ice cubes in thermos or esky to keep them cold), metal tray and plastic tray (or metal cake tin & a silicon cake tin), towels for spills

- A tray, Thin cardboard (e.g. cereal box), Scissors, 3 bowls of water, Some ground pepper (or another spice powder), Some detergent, A pipette OR eyedropper OR drinking straw, A coin, 2 paperclips, towels for spills
March 23
- Foil, a tub/bucket of water, weights (handful of marbles or coins), towels for spills
March 24 – TRIVIA

- 2 clear cups, wooden kebab stick or similar, methylated spirits or hand santiser (70% or higher), detergent, salt, chux wipe, a banana or strawberry, warm and cold water, resealable plastic bag, rubber band (optional), apple (3 thin slices), 3 bowls, lemon juice.
March 30
- Bowl of corn flour (cornstrach), 3 cups, bowl of water, optional food colouring, metamucil, warm water, towels for spills
