Join in a 90-minute teacher session focussing on Part 1: The legal system – Stage 6 Legal Studies Syllabus. Discover rich online learning resources and have questions answered by an expert.
ACTIVITY OUTLINE:
Teachers will develop an in-depth understanding of the nature and function of law through the examination of the law-making process and legislative institutions. Areas to be explored:
- the origins of Australia’s Westminster system of government
- statute law
- the role and structure of Parliament
- legislative processes
- delegated regulation
- division of and separation of powers
- law reform and the process and power of parliamentary committees and their mechanisms of reform
- Why laws change
Teachers will also have access to resources available for immediate classroom use.
