Girls and Science (Stage 4, Stage 5)

Learn how to be a girl scientist in this game-focused virtual incursion
ACTIVITY OUTLINE:
Join PhD student An Urooj to learn about automatic biases through a Psychology game! Some biases aren’t a big deal. But sometimes, those biases can become a problem. For example, a lot of people think that girls are better at writing and reading, and boys are better at maths – even though this isn’t true at all! And this could lead boys and girls towards doing specific courses in school and even getting very different careers. For example, not studying science and choosing to stay at home rather than work in science.
In this lesson, we’ll be exploring the ideas of these internal biases a little more to get a better idea of our understanding of them. This will help us create a better world that exists without biases. We will do that through playing the game Psych Tests and then you will have the opportunity to answer some questions. Your data will anonymously be compared to other students to interpret the results and apply the learning of biases to wider contexts.
