Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! with Dhunghutti Humpty (Preschool/Early Childhood, Early Stage 1)

Live Classroom event for Early Learning and Kindergarten. Sing and learn what Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! means in Aboriginal Language with the Dhunghutti Humpty.
ACTIVITY OUTLINE:
This 40 minute program invites teachers to join a live event where Aboriginal artist and educator, Dorsey Smith – along with his co-host Jo Tuscano teach children how to sing in Dhunghutti.
The children learn how Dhunghutti Humpty Dumpty fell out of the tree and how it was Humpty’s mob who showed up to help him get up and stand up and be put back together again.
The children learn Aboriginal words in Dhunghutti, they learn the meaning of falling and breaking and then getting up and showing up again. They learn it is a team effort. This is a fun event involving storytelling, ceremony, art, symbolism, metaphor and song. It is a fusion of western and Aboriginal storytelling.

Presenter Bio
Dorsey Smith is a Dhungutti and Gumbangiir artist and educator. Dorsey has a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the College of Fine Arts, UNSW. He has an Honours degree in Fine Arts and a Masters of Fine Arts as well. Dorsey is a talented dancer and has performed professionally, representing his country in the South Pacific Festival of the Arts in Tahiti.
Jo Tuscano is a published author of fiction and non-fiction. She is a teacher, editor, presenter, and mentor. She has a BA Dip Ed, Cert TESOL and a Masters in Writing. She has taught in high schools, community colleges, and was a tutor at Tranby Aboriginal College. She is the author of the novel The River Child and co-author of Back on the Block about a Stolen Generation’s members time in incarceration. Her new novel Under Andromeda is coming in 2022.
Kelly-Ann Denton holds an undergraduate, Honours and postgraduate degree in Visual Art. Commencing a practice in 1994, she began teaching and writing curricula in 2000. As a curricula writer Kelly- Ann has written courses for Sydney College of the Arts, The University of Sydney; The National Art School as well as various schools in NSW.
