Digital Talk with Alex Mckinnon and Nathan Parker 10:30am AEST 18th October Years 7-10 (Stage 4, Stage 5)

On Demand

We talk to these two inspirational humans about overcoming adversity, gratitude, resilience, managing change and addressing mental health challenges.

ACTIVITY OUTLINE:

Alex McKinnon was 22, playing professional rugby with the Newcastle Knights, when he suffered a horrific spinal cord injury on the field. Confronted by the inability to walk, use his hands, or perform normal daily activities, Alex was suddenly facing unimaginable challenges. Now a loving father of three beautiful daughters, a student studying Phycological Science at the University of Newcastle and a contributor for Fox Sports’ NRL coverage, Alex made a commitment to break the ‘why me?’ mentality and make the most of his situation..

Nathan Parker was on the pathway to his dream of becoming a fighter pilot when he was involved in a military bus rollover accident in 2015 at the age of 20. Despite multiple injuries, including the amputation of his left hand, Nathan has refused to let his situation determine his story. He has since achieved a number of goals, including regaining his pilot licence, graduating from the Australian Defence Force Academy and representing Australia in multiple Invictus Games and Warrior Games adaptive sporting events.

We talk to these two inspirational humans about overcoming adversity, gratitude, resilience, managing change and addressing mental health challenges.

If your students have a question that they would like to ask, you will have the opportunity to record it and send it in for Alex and Nathan to answer on the day. Questions will need to be received by Sydney Opera House no later than Monday 10th of October.  Further instructions on how to do this will be sent to you upon booking.
