Design in the Garden – helping ideas bloom! Stage 6 Design and Technology

Stage 6 Design and Technology students are invited to join this evocative Virtual Excursion Day to support the consolidation and ideation of major design ideas and processes.
The interactive day includes exposure to a multitude of different design stimulus from the three Botanic Gardens across Greater Sydney, interaction with authentic designers, and coaching on ways to process this knowledge to inform personal student works

- Case Study: NSW Herbarium Interpretation Design.
Sophie Daniel will share the process of connecting community with the world of Herbarium Science, 1.43 million specimens dating back to the 1700’s and producing designs that tell stories, look stunning and are scientifically correct.
- Scavenger Hunt Scrutineer
Explore an array of gardens, designs and sculptures and using design criteria give them an approval (or disproval) rating.
- Q and A with Design Experts.
Meet experts working in different areas of the Gardens and learn about how they approach design challenges.

Joshua Brown (Aboriginal Strategy) – First Nations: – connecting design to Country
Pruning ideas to shape your personal design!
TAS Curriculum Officers Laura Profilio and Elizabeth Rose will help students ideate major design projects exploring inspiration whilst considering ability, access and skill.
By purchasing a class pass to this resource there are two ways your students can access this excursion
1. The event will be run live through Microsoft teams on Tues 9 November. Microsoft Teams links will be emailed 3 working days before the Virtual Excursion.
2. The Humanitix Virtual Event Hub will also contain direct links to all On Demand learning activities and these will be available from Weds 10 November until 17 December, 2021.

If you are dialling in from the classroom, you will need –
A microphone so the presenter can hear the class. Please note that some laptop microphones are difficult to hear, and the positioning of the laptop is important for capturing sound.
A projector or smartboard that allows the students to see the presenter – your classroom smartboard is perfect for this.
Adequate sound volume (usually from your smartboard or external speakers). Laptop speakers are inadequate for your whole classroom to hear the presenter
