Have you seen birds in your school playground? Join us to learn more about our feathered friends.


ACTIVITY OUTLINE:

During the lesson Stage 1 students will learn:

about the features of a bird
that different beak shapes help birds to eat different food
that different shaped feet have different purposes
that feathers come in different shapes.

Your students will be led through this fun and interactive lesson by NSW Department of Education Environmental Education teachers. All activities and concepts covered will align with the Australian curriculum.

An interschool journal or purchase order will be emailed to you upon your registration, along with the link to the google site containing all information.  Payment will be processed prior to the event.

Learning intentions

We are learning:

about the features of a bird
that different beak shapes help birds to eat different foods
that different shaped feet have different purposes
that feathers come in different shapes.

Success criteria

I can:

name the features of a bird
choose a ‘beak’ to feed myself
match bird feet with their purposes
tell the difference between a flight feather and a tail feather.

Cancellation Policy

Our school holds limited seating, and many of our classes sell out. For this reason, we request that you cancel at least 72 business hours before your scheduled lesson. This will allow us to offer your spot to another school.

You may call us on 02 4573 6323 or alternatively cancel on the Dart Learning Website.

If you give us at least 72 hours’ notice of your need to cancel, we will credit your payment toward another lesson.

However, if you do not cancel with at least 72 hours’ notice, you will lose any payments you have already made.

The virtual lesson will be via Zoom. Once the booking is confirmed a link to Zoom will be sent. A link to a Google Site with supporting materials will also be sent.

Teachers will need a computer with a webcam and microphone to access the webinar.

Students will need:

their own beaks (things like a peg, tongs or tweezers – make sure they are clean)
some food (small things that students like to eat, such as sultanas, small lollies or berries)
a rubber band or hair tie that will fit over their hand
some small things to try and pick up (such as a pencil, clip or small toy).

Optional Further Learning

A link to a Google site containing pre and post activities to support the virtual lesson will be emailed to you with your confirmation of booking.
