After Consent – All About Women On Demand Talks – Watch in class whenever suits you between 14-25 March (Stage 5, Stage 6)

Navigate recent changes to consent legislation. Are changes to the law enough? What should justice look like? How will this change the behaviours of future generations?
ACTIVITY OUTLINE:
Celebrate International Women’s Day with this exclusive, on demand talk from the Sydney Opera House All About Women Festival. Watch on demand in your classroom whenever suits you in the week between 14-25 March.
New legislation is making its way through Australian state parliaments, enshrining the concept of “affirmative consent”: an explicit, articulated, ongoing agreement to sexual activity.
Lawyer and author Bri Lee, writer Lucia Osborne-Crowley, and advocate for sexual assault law reform Saxon Mullins join Gamilaroi woman and writer Amy Thunig in this informative exploration of the complex issues around consent – including the concerns of First Nations women and how racism intersects with misogyny. In the bedroom, on the streets, and in the courts, how do we reclaim our bodies from the impact of violence? And how can we restructure cultural respect for women’s autonomy and rebuild boundaries to create a safe and loving world for us all to live in?
Four of Australia’s prominent campaigners against sexual violence get together to discuss our changing understanding of consent, the justice system that’s catching up, and how to get the next generation of men to be different. A great talk for your male students just as much as female!
Please note this talk is recommended for students aged 15+
